The biological meaning of an animal, or human is one that has completely developed. In the context of humans, the word adult may mean something associated with legal or social ideas. In contrast to "minor" (or "non-adult", a legal-age adult is an individual who has achieved majority. They are regarded as responsible, independent and capable. Also known as "majors" and "majors", they may also be said to have reached the age of adulthood. There is a general belief that the threshold at which an individual can legally become an adult is 18. However, this can differ based on the legal rights and country as well as psychological development.

The stage of development for humans that is when physical and mental maturity has been achieved. The age of adulthood typically begins when a person reaches the age of 21. Middle age, commencing around 40 years old and is followed by the onset of an ageing process that can last up to 60 years old. The three main stages of adulthood are the early years (from mid-30s to late-60s), middle adulthood from mid-30s until late-60s and then later adulthood, (mid-60s until the time of death). As we enter the initial stage of adulthood (between 20 and 40) the bodies of our children have reached full maturation, even though our weight and height could increase slightly. When we are young the physical capabilities of our bodies are at their peak, including the strength of our muscles, our reaction speed as well as sensory capabilities, cardiac functioning.
